Mysterious Islands Seasons 1 & 2
Haunting ruins, strange creatures, and dark histories on the world's most isolated islands — from Japanese ghost fortresses and Venetian plague outposts to Roanoke and undersea volcanic mysteries — rebuilt across two seasons of CGI-driven factual storytelling.
Mysterious Islands treats every coastline as a closed system: scarce resources, sealed histories, and outposts that only give up their secrets slowly. Across Seasons 1 and 2, each hour braids up to four investigations — Ghost Island's abandoned fortresses, Murder Island Mutiny's headless skeletons and doll shores, Cold War wastelands, dinosaur remains, Roanoke, spy stations near Antarctica — weaving CGI, archive, and expert testimony into a single island grammar.
For Shark Teeth Films we ran the same high-volume factual pipeline across both seasons: forty-plus shots per episode and four hundred-plus per season, with average shot lengths of twenty-five to forty-five seconds. Island environments, ruin extensions, and creature/artefact beats combine real-time visual effects, full 3D world builds, and custom 2D and 3D assets — each hand-animated and finished in a pseudo-real grade designed for rapid iteration on a broadcast schedule and budget. Roughly ten percent of the package stays 2D; the rest carries salt air, stone, and isolated horizon.
Season 1 premiered fall 2024 on National Geographic internationally and on Super Channel and Crave in Canada, with Cineflix Rights handling distribution. Season 2 returned with Nat Geo (U.K./EMEA) plus Super Channel and Crave. The combined open for S1 & S2 establishes the franchise's visual contract: arrive by water, leave with answers.
