Hidden Beneath the Cities Season 1
An archaeological mystery series uncovering the worlds beneath major cities — from Naples' tombs and wartime shelters to Royston Cave and subterranean tunnel networks mapped across the globe.
Hidden Beneath the Cities digs straight down. Under stone, soil, and concrete sit crypts, bunkers, hypogea, and hand-cut tunnels that cities forgot they owned — Naples' wartime shelters and tombs, England's Royston Cave, underground complexes from Turkey to Seoul. Season 1, shot worldwide through 2025, brings those underworlds into frame for National Geographic and Canadian partners.
The VFX brief demanded subterranean scale at broadcast pace. We ran a custom Shark Teeth pipeline delivering forty-plus shots per episode and more than four hundred across the season, with typical shot lengths of twenty-five to forty-five seconds. Real-time effects, 3D environment builds, and custom 2D/3D asset kits let us light tunnels, extend chambers, and stage discoveries that cameras could never fully capture — hand-animated, then finished in a pseudo-real look built for rapid notes and timely, on-budget delivery. Roughly ten percent of the work remains 2D; the rest lives in carved rock and lamplit volume.
Distributed by Boat Rocker with a multi-territory National Geographic deal plus Blue Ant (English Canada) and Quebecor (French Canada), Season 1 proves every skyline has a second city underneath. The open is the invitation: follow the stairs down.
